The Salon for Creative Expression
Friends,
I appreciate your interest in learning more about the Salon for Creative Expression. I hope the following details help address your questions but if not, drop me an email. Your questions and comments will help me improve this page.
How do I get involved?
Use the Connect form to subscribe to The Salon. You will receive occasional emails from me letting you know when new work has been added. Use the comment box to let me know if you have work you would like to share and if so a brief description of that work.
What if I decide that I want to unsubscribe?
Simply email me with the relevant information and it will be deleted.
What do I need to do if I want to submit content for posting in the Salon?
Submitting your work for posting in the Salon is by invitation only. Connect to the community to indicate interest in sharing your work while supporting others.
Why are you inviting other artists to post on your personal website?
I, like many artists want to expose my poetry to a broader community. By opening my site to your work, I hope that some of your followers will want to stay tuned into my work. Likewise, I hope that some of the people that follow the site will want to remain connected to your work. In short, it is about building community.
How should I format my content if I am invited to submit?
Generally, written works (poetry, prose, essay) should be limited to about 50 lines or less and submitted in a recent version of Microsoft Word. Poetry with unusual formatting will present challenges to my ability so no promises but we can give it a try. Photography and photos of paintings or other visual arts should be submitted as a high-resolution photos that can be resized to fit the site. Audio files can be submitted in most popular formats including MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, WMA, AAC or AIFF. Video recordings will work better with shorter pieces and most popular video formats, including Mov, Quicktime, AVI and MP4 will work.
What else should accompany my submission?
Please send a brief description of your work that I can incorporate into the intro, a short bio of less than 75 words and any contact information you would like to make public (social media, web site url, etc.) Refer to the caution offered below and provide first publication information if you wish.
How long will my work remain on the site?
I anticipate roughly 4 to 6 weeks. The artist can email me to remove their content and I will remove it asap.
What more can you say about submitting content to the salon?
As a personal website, I have total discretion over who is invited to submit and what material is posted. Artists retain all rights to their work. I will not retain files associated with the content once the public posting is taken down. I will compile and make available on the site a listing of artists who have contributed along with any contact information approved by the artist.
Are there any concerns that I should consider?
I welcome work that has been previously published. As you may know, most literary journals will not accept your work when it has been posted on a personal website like this one. Therefore, I advise against sending work that you may want to submit for publication in the future. Again, I welcome your previously published work and encourage you to include information related to the first publisher.
